Dear Dr. Know-It-All,
No, you don’t have to talk about beta 2-adrenergic receptor agonists with me. I came to you for advice on what medicines to take. I have no idea what beta whatever are, nor do I care. I simply have to get a prescription to relieve my asthma symptoms.
I hate the fact that you don’t explain all the medical stuff in layman’s terms. I am a patient, a client, a customer. You are the doctor. You have studied years to achieve your status, and I bet it is your duty to make us, the normal humans, understand medicine and our disease better. You have been trained for it.
I am disappointed that you wasted years in medical school just to keep the knowledge all to yourself. You left me in the dark. What do I know of biochemistry and pharmacy?
And just what do I know of adverse reactions of drugs, especifically Salbutamol? Tachy.. what? Oh, I think it was tachycardia. Is that a type of airplane? Bacteria? Soap? Please do expound on it.
But hell, you just go on and on about how I should stop smoking. If you had been listening, you would have picked up the fact that I quit smoking a month ago. I have been telling you this since the moment I stepped in your office.
Sometimes, people should just shut up and learn to listen. You are a doctor, so I expected more from you… more learning, more information, more insights on what’s going on with my body.
You’re a disgrace, a waste of time and effort; not to mention a waste of hard-earned money. I pay you 500 bucks just to be scolded on the effects of smoking. Don’t you think I know that already?
Do me a favor and shut the hell up. You’ve been preaching about tachycardia for 10 minutes now, but you have yet to explain the meaning of the word.
You know what, I’m switching doctors. It’ll save both of us from dying: me from a heart attack, you from a gunshot wound.
Love,
Your Asthmatic Patient.

1I am glad to read this post. As a female, smoking is more harmful to me than it is for men.
